Shaped Edges

The letter at right demonstrates what can be done with edge detail. This letter is 6" tall Times New Roman font made from 3/4" solid maple.  This type of letter requires much more work than does a standard letter that has edges cut 90 degrees to the face, and is priced accordingly.

In general, the price per letter is at least twice that of a standard letter and are not suitable for all font styles. In particular, Times New Roman (right), and similar fonts where there are thin strokes are not a good choice since there is minimal material left after shaping around the feet areas.

Block type fonts such as Arial, Tahoma and Helvetica work well for shaping, as do some round fonts such as Vagabond and Cooper Black. Edging is done on a case by case basis.
